Decide where media will help
Photo and video reviews are most valuable when shoppers need to evaluate appearance, scale, fit, texture, setup, packaging, or real-world use. They are less useful when the product is simple, private, or difficult to photograph safely. Enable media capture where it helps future customers make a better decision.
Good candidates include apparel, beauty, home goods, accessories, hobby products, furniture, pet products, and products with visible before-and-after or setup outcomes. If a product category may reveal sensitive personal information, use a stricter moderation standard.
Make the prompt specific and low effort
Customers are more likely to add media when the request is simple. Ask for one useful photo or a short video, not a full content shoot. Tie the prompt to the product category: fit, styling, size reference, installation, unboxing, or how the product looks in use.
Example prompt: Add a quick photo showing how the product looks in your space. It helps other shoppers choose with confidence.
Keep media optional. A required media field can reduce total review volume and create low-quality uploads from customers who only want to leave a text review.
Moderate before publishing
Inspect media for relevance, quality, privacy, and brand safety before it appears on storefront widgets. Look for faces, addresses, order information, minors, offensive content, unsafe product use, unrelated images, and screenshots that include personal data.
- Confirm the media matches the reviewed product.
- Check that the customer did not expose private information.
- Verify the review text and rating provide enough context.
- Feature the strongest media only where it supports a buying decision.
Use moderate incoming reviews to build the queue routine.
Feature media where it answers objections
Customer media should not be scattered randomly across the storefront. Place it where it answers a common objection: "How big is it?", "What does the color look like in real light?", "Will this fit?", or "How hard is setup?" Curated media can work well in sliders, full review lists, and product detail sections.
Review media periodically. Remove or rotate content if product packaging, formula, fit, color, or instructions change. Fresh media keeps the page aligned with the current product experience.
