Configure review widgets

Choose the right widget for each storefront surface, align it with the theme, preview the layout, and publish with clear validation checks.

Pick the right widget

Start with the question the shopper is trying to answer on that page. Rating summaries help shoppers decide whether to keep evaluating a product. Full review lists help them compare real customer experiences. Sliders and curated blocks highlight strong proof. Popups should be used sparingly and only when they support, rather than interrupt, the buying path.

  • Star rating summary: place near the product title and price.
  • Review list: place below product detail where shoppers evaluate fit, quality, and delivery.
  • Review slider: use for featured media or high-signal quotes.
  • Popup or floating proof: reserve for light social signals and avoid checkout interruption.

For placement strategy, read where review widgets work hardest on product pages.

Match the theme

Review widgets should feel native to the storefront. Match star color, typography, border style, avatar treatment, spacing, and button style to the theme. If the store uses a restrained design system, keep the widget restrained too. If the product page is image-led, prioritize media reviews and a clean review list.

Check contrast on both light and dark sections. Make sure stars, links, filters, and review body text remain legible on mobile. If the store has custom product templates, validate the widget on each important template, not only the default product page.

Preview before publishing

Use preview mode or a duplicate theme when possible. Confirm the widget loads in the right location, does not shift the layout unexpectedly, and does not hide product actions. Test with products that have many reviews, no reviews, media reviews, and variant-specific reviews.

  1. Preview desktop and mobile breakpoints.
  2. Open review filters, sorting, pagination, and media lightboxes if enabled.
  3. Click the rating summary and confirm it moves to the review list.
  4. Check products with zero reviews for a helpful empty state.
  5. Confirm the theme still passes the merchant's normal launch checklist.

Publish and monitor

After publishing, open live product pages in a regular browser session. Confirm the widgets appear for shoppers, not only admins. Watch for theme caching, app embed settings, or custom product templates that may prevent a widget from appearing everywhere expected.

After launch, review widget performance and moderation quality together. A widget cannot create trust if the underlying reviews are stale, irrelevant, or poorly moderated. Use moderation workflows to keep storefront proof current.
